Advantages and disadvantages of resin lenses

Announcer: : Shenzhen AG Optics Technology Co., Ltd. Time: 2022-08-16

advantage:

1. Light: The density of general resin lenses is 0.83-1.5, while the density of optical glass is 2.27-5.95.

2. Strong impact resistance: The impact resistance of resin lenses is generally 8-10kg/cm², which is several times that of glass, so it is not easy to break, and is safe and durable.

3. Good light transmittance: In the visible light region, the light transmittance of the resin lens is close to that of glass; in the infrared light region, it is slightly higher than that of glass; in the ultraviolet region, the light transmittance decreases with the decrease of the wavelength starting from 0.4um, and the wavelength is less than 0.3um Almost all of the light is absorbed, so the UV transmission is poor.

4. Low cost: injection-molded lenses can be mass-produced with precision molds, and the cost of a single piece can be greatly reduced.

5. Can meet special needs: For example, it is not difficult to make aspherical lenses, but it is difficult to do glass lenses.

shortcoming:

Disadvantages: The surface wear resistance and chemical corrosion resistance are worse than glass, the surface is easy to be scratched, and the water absorption is greater than that of glass. These shortcomings can be improved by coating methods. The fatal disadvantage is high thermal expansion coefficient, poor thermal conductivity, low softening temperature, easy deformation and affecting optical performance.
